RAIN UPDATE:

Practice Trick or Treat is still happening today! We are moving the event indoors (downstairs). When you park in the parking lot and face the building (Blue Hill Event Center), the entry to downstairs is around the right side. We can't wait to see you there!

---------------------------------------------------------

We were so delighted at the turnout for last year's Practice Trick or Treat for AAC Users and can't wait to see you again this year!

If you, your child, or a friend uses Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) or needs some extra support communicating, please join us on October 10, from 10:00am-noon at Blue Hill Event Center (200 S Elliott Rd, Chapel Hill, NC 27514)

This is a cozy Trunk or Treat event with crafts, games, reading/rest areas, and opportunities to connect with other families. Participants (all ages welcome) can experience a quieter, slower-paced introduction to trick or treating. It's also a great time to test out new costumes!

The volunteer team includes speech-language pathologists, other therapists, tutors, local business owners, and community members trained in supporting and honoring all forms of communication.

Our "treats" are usually non-food items and a few snacks: Please note: while we try to avoid most allergens, items like peanuts, wheat, etc. may be present. Families are encouraged to check their participant's treats to see which ones are safe. We hope you enjoy mingling during our fall-themed activities and take time to play and relax on the grass.

To ensure we have enough treats for everyone, please RSVP on our Contact Us page or email info@littleseedsspeechtherapy.com We are also happy to answer any questions you have regarding your family's unique needs.

Additional details about this year's event:

  • We will be outdoors on a gravel parking lot, so please wear comfortable shoes and clothes.

  • We try to make the event as wheelchair accessible as possible. Please let us know what else we can do to help your participant feel comfortable, welcome, and involved.

  • Participants will have access to a bathroom during the event.

  • All participants (including caregivers!) are encouraged to wear costumes, but it is not a requirement. Comfort, safety, and fun are our priorities :)

  • Siblings, close friends, and chosen family are welcome to attend. Please include them in your RSVP if possible.

  • Please bring your communication devices fully charged since we will not have outlets. We will have some picture communication options available for participants to use.

  • Caregivers know what is best for their family members and will be responsible for their participants' safety and actions. Please have at least one caregiver (18 or older) monitor your participant(s) at all times.

  • Because this event is staffed by a variety of volunteers who are also donating toys/treats/snacks, please be aware that some allergens may be present. Caregivers should decide what is safe for their particpants.

  • All forms of communication are appreciated and will be honored. Please encourage your participant to communicate in whatever way is most comfortable for them.

If any families, friends, or businesses would like to donate treats, decorate their cars, and/or hand out treats, we would love the extra support! (and so will the Trick or Treaters!)

We can't wait to see you again this year!

*If you love the inclusive ghosts from our flyer as much as we do, please consider purchasing them from Your SLP Bestie :)
